Autumn 2007 Training Course
We will be
running a one day training course in October, details
of which can be found below. If you are interested
in attending the training course please

CCA Basics & Reporting at the 4th Milestone
This one-day training course will provide a broad introduction to many aspects of your CCA and help you prepare for the reporting of the 4th Milestone Target Period (which ends on September 30th 2008).
The course will cover a number of basic issues that will be of great help to people that have recently taken on CCA responsibilities. The course will also deal in reasonable detail with more complex issues such as emmissions trading.
Description
of previous courses the CCL Discount Scheme has run:
Preparing
for the 2nd/3rd Milestone
This course provided
a broad introduction to many aspects of CCA's and helped
prepare delegates for the reporting of the 2nd/3rd Milestone
Target Period which took place in Autumn 2004/2006.
The course covered a number of basic issues to help
to people who have taken on CCA responsibilities.
It also dealt with more complex issues such as emissions
trading and use of the risk management tools (Product
Mix and Output Algorithm and Relevant Constraints).
Practical
CO2 trading
This half-day
course coverd the practicalities of trading CO2 Allowances
from generation to sale and from purchase to retirement.
This included how to use the Emissions Trading Scheme
website, managing accounts and developing a strategy
for purchasing CO2 Allowances.
Preparing
for a CCA Audit
Companies
with CCAs can be audited by Defra, HM Customs and Excise
or an independent verifier. This course provided practical
help on preparing for an audit; each delegate was given
a customised Evidence Pack prepared by the CCL Discount
Scheme to take away for maintaining.
Product
Mix and Output Algorithm (PMOA) Workshop
This workshop
provided detailed guidance on how to apply the PMOA
and how to apply a Regulatory Constraint (RC). The PMOA
and RCs are useful features of CCAs and can help you
meet your target if: (a) production has fallen, (b)
your product mix has changed in an adverse way or (c)
if you are forced to use more energy to meet other government
regulations. Application of the PMOA or an RC is not
straight forward so this course will provide the necessary
in-depth advice on using these risk management tools.
Energy
Management Course
This course
provided a wide range of practical advice about how
to save energy in food and drink factories. The course
includes lectures covering the main energy using systems
including refrigeration, steam systems, compressed air,
fan and pumping systems etc. Guidance on how to set
up a comprehensive energy saving programme and implement
monitoring and targeting systems will also be provided.
Refrigeration
Systems
Refrigeration systems often represent a significant
electrical load in food and drink factories. This course
included an introduction to the basics of refrigeration
systems and an in depth review of ways of reducing energy
consumption. It also addressed a wide range of saving
techniques including improved control and maintenance,
reductions in cooling load and improvements in plant
design.
Compressed
Air and Variable Speed Drives
This 1 day course was split into 2 halves. In the morning
we explained ways in which the energy consumption of
compressed air systems can be reduced. In the afternoon
we looked at how variable speed drives can be used in
food and drink factories to reduce the energy use of
many types of machinery (e.g. pumps and fans).
Boilers
and Steam Systems
Most food and drink plants use steam to distribute heat
to the process. This course explained the numerous ways
in which steam usage can be reduced and boiler system
efficiency improved.
How
to Meet Food and Drink Industry CCA Targets
This one day introductory course covered the requirements
of a CCL Agreement, the basics of energy management
and reviewing some of the technical measures that are
most relevant to the food and drink sector.
Setting
Up a Good M&T System
A one day course covering the key elements of M&T
including sub-metering, data collection and analysis,
setting up energy teams, identifying and implementing
improvement projects.
After attending this course, delegates would be able
to specify an appropriate M&T system for their site.
In particular they would be able to identify any increased
metering that may be required, identify appropriate
Energy Accountable Centres on the site and determine
appropriate production variables that effect energy
consumption. They would also understand the importance
of energy teams and how to ensure that savings are made
and maintained.
Evaluating
CHP Opportunities
A one day course covering the basics of CHP and explaining
how to carry out a CHP evaluation. Delegates would be
able to understand the different CHP options available,
where they can be applied and how economic performance
should be properly evaluated. They would also be able
to carry out an initial site evaluation on the feasibility
of CHP in accordance with the CCA requirements using
the DEFRA methodology.
